First Deputy Speaker Call for Closer Ties With German

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Ebo Barton- Odro has called for the strengthening of ties and cooperation between the Parliament of Ghana and Germany (The Bundestag). The First Deputy Speaker made the call when he received a German delegation led by Mr. Johannes Selle, a Member of the German Bundestag who is also a Member of Committee on Economic Development and Cooperation of Bundestag. Hon. Barton- Odro called for collaboration between Germany and Ghana in areas of vocational training and trade as well as support in the funding solutions to the problems posed by climate change and the application of renewable energy. Explaining the purpose of the visit Mr Selle, noted that the visit is meant to strengthen Economic cooperation’s between the two countries and also find out how Ghana is coping with some of the challenges being faced by the country in the run-up to the 2016 elections. He said the group is also in Ghana to inspect some of the projects funded by the German Government in Ghana. Responding to some of the issues raised by the Delegation, Hon. Barton- Odro noted that Parliament as part of its oversight role is making every efforts to ensure that there are no budgetary overruns in Government spending in the period before the elections. In this regard the Finance Committee of Parliament will monitor and ensure that Government sticks to what has been allocated by Parliament for the year. Mr. Barton- Odro expressed his gratitude to the German Government for its assistance in the area of budgetary support and the handling of harvest from cocoa sector. The meeting also discussed Cooperation in the area of electronic waste management and the fight against terrorism.
